movie poster research

This movie poster from "The Exorcist" is simple yet effective, the image simply portrays a silhouette with a hat and breifcase, facing a house from which a beam of light shines from the top window, the iconography of the unnatural focus of light shows the supernatural aspect and gives a slight insight on the subject of the film, this is backed up by the name of the film, "The Exorcist" sounds gives the idea of demons and evil, which in turn suggests that the silhouette is that of a vicar, priest or holyman. The Title is near the foot of the poster next to technical info including actors names and production companies, this is easy to find and the colour is easy to read against the background.
The tagline is at the head of the poster, yet its in small writing, probably because it is not of great importance as all it does is tell that the film is a remake of an old horror.
This is a spanish poster for the movie "The Orphanage"
I chose to analyse this because although its in another language i found it striking and eyecatching due to the colour scheme and subject.
the main image is once again blended into the darkness to make a background, the main image depicts a woman standing with a child in front of a large window, which enforces the idea of infants and an orphanage, the point that marks the film as a horror is the colour scheme and the small arms reaching out from the darkness as if they are attempting to grab the woman, from the looks of it the arms belong to children giving the impression that the children are evil, the iconography that she is standing in the light gives the impression that whatever is in the dark cant reach her, coupled with the colour iconography of black and red (black being darkness and unknown whilst red is blood and danger) this makes a very effective poster

This is a more less known film called "the shortcut"
the whole poster has been put into sepiatone, possibly to make it look old or to make the image look monotone.
the image depicts a man carrying a person off into what looks like a private forest, we can tell this from the open gate with the sign saying, "no trespassers, violators will be killed"
Trees loom overhead and nobody else can be seen, the gate and fence look old, this coupled with the sense of panic, and isolation, gives the impression that the film is intended to be a horror, this doesnt even use the classical iconography and colours yet it still gets the point across well.
the title and producer are in a slightly smaller font that can still be noticed but is obviously not intended to be the main focus of the poster
